Building Early Road Safety Awareness Through Defensive Riding Education
The Castrol Back To School Program, conducted in collaboration with PPD Pulau Pinang, brought an impactful week of road safety education to selected secondary schools across Pulau Pinang. Held from 13th to 17th October 2025, the initiative focused on shaping early awareness among students—especially young or soon-to-be riders—on the importance of safe and responsible motorcycling.
Supported by Castrol and facilitated by certified trainers from MASRA Academy, the program emphasised defensive riding, situational awareness, and safe behavioural habits that students can apply as future road users.
Creating Early Awareness on Safe Riding Habits
The program delivered interactive safety talks, engaging demonstrations, and real-world examples tailored for students. MASRA Academy’s trainers introduced young audiences to key concepts such as:
- Understanding road hazards
- How defensive riding prevents common youth-related accidents
- Importance of proper safety gear
- Developing a responsible riding mindset before even owning a motorcycle
By presenting information in a fun, relatable, and hands-on format, the sessions helped students recognise that road safety begins long before they actually ride on the road.
Live Motorcycle Safety Demonstrations
One of the highlights of the Castrol Back to School initiative was the on-ground safety demonstration led by MASRA’s certified instructors. Students were shown:
- Correct braking techniques
- Balance and slow-speed control
- Why proper gear matters
- How defensive riding reduces panic and mistakes
These demonstrations gave students a clear visual understanding of how simple techniques can prevent serious accidents—making defensive riding more tangible and memorable.
Empowering the Next Generation of Riders
By reaching schools such as SMK Seri Nibong, SMK Sungai Acheh, and SMK Jit Sin 2, the program successfully inspired hundreds of students to think differently about safety.
This initiative aligns with Castrol’s and PPD Pulau Pinang’s commitment to nurturing responsible youth communities and building safer roads for the future.
Through early exposure to road safety knowledge, MASRA Academy continues to play a crucial role in shaping young Malaysians into more disciplined, aware, and safety-oriented riders.
