Northport Klang Empowers Riders With Defensive Riding Skills
On 8th October 2025, Northport Klang organised the Northport (DOSH) Safety Riding Program, a safety-focused initiative aimed at improving motorcycle handling, rider awareness, and defensive riding habits among employees and daily riders within the port environment.
As one of the most active industrial hubs in Malaysia, Northport recognises the importance of proper rider education — especially in high-risk, high-traffic workplaces.
This program focused on defensive riding, hazard anticipation, and safer commuting behaviour to help reduce motorcycle-related accidents among port workers.
🔧 Program Overview
The one-day program delivered a mix of technical guidance, live demonstration, and practical knowledge designed to elevate rider discipline and awareness.
1️⃣ Free Motorcycle Service
Participants received complimentary bike inspections and minor servicing to ensure their motorcycles were safe, road-worthy, and well-maintained — an essential component of defensive riding.
2️⃣ Safety Training Talk by Wazi Abdul Hamid
Malaysia’s renowned safety riding expert, Wazi Abdul Hamid, conducted an in-depth session covering:
- Rider discipline & road mindset
- Real-world hazard recognition
- Defensive riding habits for daily routes
- Common accident patterns in Malaysia
- Practical ways to avoid high-risk situations
The session helped participants understand how attitude and awareness form the foundation of safe riding.
3️⃣ Live Defensive Riding Demonstration
Certified trainers from MASRA Academy showcased real-time techniques including:
- Proper braking control
- Slow-speed balance & clutch control
- Cornering technique for stability
- Emergency manoeuvres
- Safe reaction timing for unexpected hazards
This hands-on demonstration highlighted how defensive riding directly reduces accident risks in unpredictable environments.
👥 Participant Engagement & Training Impact
A total of 74 participants attended the program, engaging actively in both the classroom briefing and on-ground observation.
Through clear explanations, guided observation, and practical insights, participants gained essential knowledge on:
- Safer commuting behaviour
- Spotting hazards before they happen
- Improving machine control
- The importance of regular bike maintenance
The program supports DOSH’s ongoing effort to minimise workplace-related incidents through proper training, rider discipline, and community education.
